McLaughlin & Stern Partner Nelson E. Canter, Esq., has been retained to protect the subrogation interests of the property insurer for the Champlain Condominium Homeowner’s Association in connection with the catastrophic collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium building in Surfside, FL on June 24, 2021. The collapse tragically resulted in 98 deaths, and it led to the total destruction of the condominium building. The property insurer has paid over $31,000,000 as a result of the collapse.

Mr. Canter leads the firm’s national Insurance Subrogation Group and has served as lead counsel for large loss property subrogation investigations and litigation matters throughout the United States. His experience includes providing representation for insurers in connection with building collapses, construction defects, product defects, fires and explosions, and other large-scale casualty events. Mr. Canter previously was elected and served a four-year term as Town Justice for The Town of Harrison, NY, and he has served in appointed positions with various advisory committees and currently serves on the Executive Board of the Westchester County Arson Task Force and is a Life Member and Ex-Assistant Chief of the Purchase Fire Department where he has been an active member for 44 years.
