McLaughlin & Stern Reaches $4.75 Million Settlement in Starrett City Wage-and-Hour Class Action Lawsuit
New York, NY — McLaughlin & Stern, LLP is pleased to announce a $4.75 million settlement in a wage-and-hour class action on behalf of non-exempt hourly employees at Starrett City. Plaintiffs alleged that Starrett City Associates, L.P. and Grenadier Realty Corp. (the “Starrett Defendants”) owed them and other class members unpaid straight and overtime compensation under the Fair Labors Standard Act by paying them only according to their scheduled shifts rather than the actual time they clocked in and out and were working. Plaintiffs also asserted Federal Rule 23 class claims against the Starrett Defendants under the wage and hour laws of New York. The settlement, which provides meaningful recovery for class members, was reached between Plaintiffs and the Starrett Defendants, and Plaintiffs and Brooksville Company and Rockpoint Group, the now owner of the Spring Creek Towers located at Starrett City.
On September 27, 2019, the Court issued an Order granting final approval of the settlement, counsels’ request for attorneys’ fees and expenses, and other settlement-related issues.
