John Brickman, head of litigation in the Firm’s Long Island office, has been reappointed as a Commissioner of the New York State Legislative Ethics Commission by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie. The Commission has jurisdiction over ethical issues affecting members of the New York State Senate and Assembly, as well as legislative employees. Brickman has served on the Commission since 2016.  This will be his third four-year term.

Brickman’s law practice concentrates in litigation and dispute resolution, with particular emphasis on corporate, commercial, trust and estate, real estate, and business cases. He has tried more than 100 cases in federal and state courts and before arbitration tribunals.  He is also experienced in appellate litigation, having argued more than 100 appeals, primarily in the New York Court of Appeals and Appellate Division, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  Brickman has served regularly as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and frequently has been appointed as a receiver and referee in corporate and real estate disputes by courts throughout the downstate region. For years, he taught Continuing Legal Education programs on lawyers’ ethics.
