Steven S. Newburgh leads the West Palm Beach office’s bankruptcy practice. Mr. Newburgh is currently serving his third 3-year term as Director of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the Southern District of Florida’s (“BBA”) West Palm Beach Division and chairs the BBA’s Pro Bono Committee. Mr. Newburgh also serves on the Bankruptcy Court’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono as Lay-Chair and is responsible for conceptualization and implementation of many of the pro bono initiatives in the U.S. Southern District of Florida. Mr. Newburgh serves on the Southern District of Florida’s Local Rules Advisory Committee and is active in ongoing revisions to the Southern District of Florida’s Local Rules of Federal Bankruptcy Procedure. Mr. Newburgh lectures monthly in the courtrooms of the West Palm Beach Division as part of the District’s pro se assistance programs and coordinates the needs of qualified pro bono applicants with volunteer bankruptcy attorneys. Mr. Newburgh regularly conducts Continuing Legal Education (“CLE”) courses in bankruptcy and restructuring law to ensure bankruptcy lawyers are able to meet their CLE requirements for admission to practice before the bankruptcy courts and to provide bankruptcy litigators and practitioners updates in this ever-evolving practice area. Mr. Newburgh recently served as Faculty at the Florida Conference of Circuit Judges, extending education in bankruptcy law and procedure to the state circuit court judges who often encounter issues arising out of a pending bankruptcy proceeding. In 2018, Mr. Newburgh received the first Chief Judge’s Pro Bono Award in the Southern District of Florida. Mr. Newburgh primarily represents bankruptcy trustees, secured and unsecured creditors and corporate debtors seeking restructuring or liquidation through chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code (Title 11) and has provided services to clients throughout the United States.
